Sophia Costello massage therapist

Sophia Castillo is a recent graduate of the Registered Massage Therapy program at Vancouver Career College. With a comprehensive education in massage therapy, Sophia has been trained in a variety of massage techniques and therapeutic modalities, equipping her to provide personalized care for each client she works with. Sophia Castillo is a massage therapist near Burnaby at Elu Wellness by Metrotown. If you ask where the best massage in Burnaby then you will find our RMTs.

Sophia provides massage therapy to help facilitate movement or help manage symptoms from day-to-day problems that may be affecting our demographic today. She decided to be an RMT because I love helping people live their lives more comfortably and provide some relief from aches and pains.

Sophia loves providing deep tissue massage using techniques like GTO release and muscle stripping for those weekend warriors or heavy lifters. She has experience with treating people with mental health issues such as bipolar disorder, dementia, depression and anxiety disorder.

Some areas she focuses on are back, legs and hips, because most of the time, they are the muscle groups that get neglected when a patient walks in with lower back pain. So targeting those
areas, I find have more beneficial results than just working directly on the area of concern.

Sophia’s journey into massage therapy began with her deep interest in holistic health and wellness. Her motivation to help others, combined with her natural empathy and keen attention to detail, led her to pursue a career in massage therapy. Now, as a fully qualified RMT, she brings a compassionate approach to her work, focusing on both the physical and emotional well-being of her clients.

Skills and Specialties

Sophia specializes in a range of massage techniques designed to promote relaxation, reduce pain, and support recovery from injury. Her skills and areas of expertise include:

1. Swedish Massage

Sophia is highly skilled in Swedish massage, which is known for its relaxing, long strokes and gentle pressure. This technique is perfect for clients looking to relieve stress, improve circulation, and unwind from daily tension. Sophia customizes each session to ensure a deeply relaxing experience, tailored to the specific needs of each client.

2. Deep Tissue Massage

For those dealing with chronic muscle tension or pain, Sophia offers deep tissue massage. This technique targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, using slow strokes and deep finger pressure to release tightness. Sophia excels at identifying problem areas and working through the layers of muscle to alleviate discomfort and promote healing.

3. Sports Massage

With her knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics, Sophia provides sports massage therapy for athletes and active individuals. Her approach focuses on preventing and treating sports-related injuries, enhancing flexibility, and improving overall athletic performance. Whether it’s pre-event preparation or post-exercise recovery, Sophia adapts her techniques to help clients maintain their physical health and performance.

4. Trigger Point Therapy

Sophia is also trained in trigger point therapy, a technique that targets specific points of tension or “knots” within the muscles. By applying focused pressure to these points, she helps relieve pain and restore range of motion. This method is particularly beneficial for clients suffering from chronic pain conditions, headaches, or muscle stiffness.

5. Myofascial Release

Sophia’s proficiency in myofascial release allows her to treat clients with tight, restrictive connective tissue (fascia). This technique involves applying gentle sustained pressure to the fascia to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and increase circulation. It’s an effective treatment for clients with issues such as fibromyalgia, postural problems, or scar tissue.

One of the hallmarks of Sophia’s practice is her client-centered approach. She takes the time to listen to her clients’ concerns and health goals, ensuring that each session is tailored to meet their unique needs. Whether a client is seeking pain relief, stress reduction, or recovery from injury, Sophia’s focus is on providing treatments that promote both immediate and long-term benefits.

In addition to her technical skills, Sophia is known for her warm, calming demeanor, which helps clients feel comfortable and relaxed during their sessions. Her ability to create a welcoming and supportive environment allows her to connect with clients on a deeper level, fostering trust and openness.

As a recent graduate, Sophia is eager to continue growing and developing her skills as a massage therapist. She is committed to ongoing education and regularly attends workshops and seminars to stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in massage therapy techniques and wellness practices.

In her free-time she enjoys baking, working out and singing. She is quite busy on my day-to-day so she loves winding down and binging my favorite tv show, Friends. She thinks that having a good work-life balance is important to enjoy your career but also explore the wonders of the world. Sophia is also bi-lingual, with Spanish being my first language. So I can provide some comfort if English is not your strong suit.
