Swedish Massage
Burnaby RMT Massage Clinic
Swedish massage, is a form of massage therapy that focuses on providing general relaxation, relieving muscle tension and improving blood circulation. Its primary goal is to assist the client in escaping the demands of their mundane tasks and taking quality time to recover from the stresses of everyday life.
A Swedish massage is used mainly to promote relaxation, relieve stress and reduce muscle tension caused by everyday activities. As it improves your circulation and blood flow and aids with lymphatic drainage, you will be left with a sense of wellbeing and calm at the conclusion of your relaxation massage at Elu Wellness. A Swedish relaxation massage is the most common and best known type of massage and is considered to be the most relaxing style. In British Columbia, all Registered Massage Therapists or RMTs are trained in Swedish massage and this is the main type of massage offered at Elu Wellness.
A Swedish massage involves the use of long, fluid strokes that vary in pressure from light, to medium to firm. At Elu Wellness our relaxation massage is designed to be therapeutic and intended to soothe and recharge both the mind and body.
A Swedish massage is meant to aid your physical, mental and emotional health as it calms the mind and in turn, settles the nervous system. As a Swedish massage encourages blood flow throughout the body, it also helps boost the immune system by stimulating the lymphatics.
Though a deep tissue, sports and Swedish massage all involve the use of the palms, fingers, elbows and forearms to knead and manipulate tissues, a Swedish massage is pain free as it uses far less tension, does not delve as deep and involves less stretching and stimulation of muscle. A Swedish massage only targets the superficial layers of muscle and focuses on the parts of the body that tend to hold the most tension such as the neck, shoulders and back.
During a Swedish massage at Elu Wellness our RMTs will first use a series of light, rhythmic long strokes at your preferred pressure to help gauge muscle tone and identify problem areas. Once the surface tension is eased and the muscles are sufficiently stimulated, short, fast stokes are used to create heat to further promote circulation while a squeezing technique lifts the muscles to lessen tension. Rapid, superficial movements of the fingertips or palms produces vibration to tone down and relax the entire body.
A Swedish massage purpose is to de-stress, calm, relax and rejuvenate the mind and body. The techniques used in a Swedish massage are not designed to be therapeutic nor are they meant to deal with chronic pain or discomfort. The smooth gliding strokes, slower pace and lighter pressure are intended to improve circulation, range of movement, ease minor muscle pain and promote overall relaxation by increasing “happy hormones” such as serotonin and dopamine.
At Elu Wellness our RMTs recommend a Swedish massage if you are new to massage, have a lot of tension or are sensitive to touch. A Swedish massage is also recommended for those who are only looking for a peaceful or comforting experience. The soothing long and flowing strokes, gentle kneading and rhythmic circular motions coupled with the vibrations from gentle tapping make for a calming experience.
At Elu Wellness we believe that healing and balance is attained through selfcare and we strive to provide you with the best care and attention possible while you are in our care.
